Poster Love

I’m definitely going to be making some more posters here in the neear future – I’ve had some ideas swimming in my head already. While looking around at ideas, I found some great posters by theBungaloo on etsy. Check out their work here. Love it!

What I like about a framed print in the house is how much personality it can add to a boring room. It can also serve as inspiration – buy a print, and use it as your color palette: you can match your paint color and accessories to it.

“Not an Option” Print

New Print in the Shop Now!

not an option print
This print was requested by my high school friend, Lydia. She was in need of a motivating poster that said ‘Not an Option.’ Here is what Lydia said:

When I was in school and I had a hard time getting up early or doing my
home work, periodically I would write on my hand or wrist “not an option“. That would remind me throughout the day that going to school or doing my homework is not optional. I have
to do it. For some reason in my brain certain things are optional and
other things aren’t. I spend a lot of time convincing myself to make
important things set in stone. Not optional.

The Design

Lydia is a very inspired person. She loves photography and composition. I knew that the poster could have a deeper meaning for her. I took Van Gogh’s Iris painting:

Took it into Photoshop and used the Mosaic Filter to pull out the colors of the painting:

Then used the eyedropper tool to pull out some greens. When I think of Lydia, I think of green – because she has great crazy red hair, beautiful freckles, and she looks really great in green. Here is the finished print:

Perhaps this print could motivate you? I’ll be posting these in my shop this week.

More Great Wall Art

I came across Jennifer Squires somehow, and found that she has a really great photography blog and etsy shop. I think she would make a great addition to the artwork in my house, and these are my favorites:

ohbrooke Sells Prints!

ohbrooke sells prints

I often make prints for my home because I have a hard time with artwork, as many people do. Art on the walls can be the difference between a sterile room and a lived-in home with personality. But artwork can be hard because:

  • It can be expensive
  • You may feel no connection to the piece
  • You don’t know how to pick it
  • You don’t know where to put it

I struggle with buying artwork for some of these same reasons, so I make it for myself, and now I’m making it for you! The best part is that these are limited edition, only a dozen or so of each kind. So, you can have TRULY UNIQUE prints in your home that nobody else will have.

I’ve started an ohbrooke SHOP (see new navigation item up top) where I’ll be adding limited edition prints as I create them. The two first prints are apropos for the upcoming holiday, Valentines Day, but needn’t be seasonal. Have a look at the first ohbrooke prints here.
