Dresser Entertainment Center
I received some questions about my "entertainment center". I have no idea why these seem to be so expensive, and often, so ugly. I had the hardest time finding something I liked, so I just used a dresser. I bought this dresser for $35 at a garage sale a few years back{thanks Clare!} and painted it with paint+water so you can see some of the woodgrain through it. I did do the whole hinges in the drawers thing, only to find that our electronics didn't fit in the drawers. So, I ditched the drawers and bought MDF, covered them with Fabric and used them as shelves. In retrospect, the hinged drawers would have annoyed me, and I would have always ...
Space Invader Strikes Again
My four month old found a corner of the house that he hadn't "peed on" yet. I think this pretty much covers it now, my house has been fully mommy-fied.
Drooling Over Real Estate
Why does my husband do this to me? We always like to look at real estate, and if he'd let me, I'd take my hubby to open houses every weekend. But this went too far. Check out this house my husband showed me. I die. Great. Now everytime I schlep my groceries to the second floor, I'll picture this in my mind. Arg!
Catalina Zip Line
How is it that I've lived in California my whole life and never been to Catalina? My mom inspired a jaunt with my sister, baby Owen and me last weekend. Too fun! {The beginning of the video is my sister, the end is me} {click here to watch our Zip Line video on YouTube}
Before and After: Cane Chairs
I didn't think I could show my face until I had finished them. Why did it take so long? A combination of a four-month-old who just beat colic, and this chair not being the easiest to reupholster. But check out these beauties... I'm in love! Hilarious how so many of us have these chairs. One reader had already redone her chair. Let me start by saying that this is not a project for the faint of heart. It did take some muscle and some patience, but look how cute! Totally worth it. Also note that I'm not a pro. Not even a semi-pro. I've only done mild upholstery jobs, so I just made this up as I went along, and it ...
Sweet Little Feet
In LOVE with this gift from Face to Face Framing! Brigitte so generously sent this frame with a picture of my little bugger from Nicole Hoxie Photography. I almost boobed a little when I got it because I already forget how tiny those little feet were. These little feet can hardly stay still now...
I’m a Bright Girl
... but why did I think I could iron this shirt when I bought it?Please tell me there's another option...
BHG Crafts
I miss my Better Homes & Gardens magazine subscription. I don't have time for extra crafts right now (and I'm *this* close to finishing my chair but haven't been able to work it in yet), but I'm sharing projects from the bhg.com website that I love: Silk Scarf Room Divider Fabric-Covered Organizers Magnetic Memo Board Colorful Candlesticks Fabric Lined Chest
July Giveaways!
I get offered to do giveaways quite a bit - and I've decided to pool the giveaways into monthly group giveaways. More fun for you - easier administratively for me. This months cute giveaways include: This adorable nursery baby wipe case from Ajo.Bebe in Beyond Flowers fabric. Ajo.Bebe sells other adorable baby accessories - my favorite is the reversible stroller liner. They are also offering a 15% off coupon code here. This cute Button Trim Ponte plus size dress from FashionToFigure.com. They sell trendy plus size clothing including one of my favorites, the stripe jersey with vest. And last but not least, these earrings are so "me". Confectionary Trinket sells gorgeous jewelry - and while these earrings are my favorite, I also love ...
My Seedy Past
Okay, maybe not "seedy"... more like "very-public-part-fascinating-part-not-so-interesting" past. Here are some quick links to dig back to previous posts by some of my favorite categories:
Patio Wish List
I live in an itty-bitty condo, and this is my patio: I don't have anything on my patio currently except for ongoing projects. I'd love to have some furniture out there now that the warm weather is upon us, but I don't want to spend the money on it right now. Well, it doesn't hurt to do a little looking. The baby gets a little cranky in the early evening, and we walk to the neighbor's patio and swing on their hammock. He LOVES it. Some kind of swing is a must. I love those padded patio swings, even though they are *fug*, and would be willing to get one because they are so comfy. Here's a cute one I found on ...
New Mom: What I Know Now
I wasn't going to continue the series, but I couldn't help thinking back to all of the advice I've received from comments on the blog, and how dead-on they were. I thought I'd share my thoughts... What you said -- and you were RIGHT: Pampers for boys - Huggies for girls. I used the Huggies I had received from a baby shower, but when Owen's "sleeping-through-the-night" was thwarted by two late-night leaky diaper outfit changes, they had to go. Kirkland diapers seem to be as good as Pampers for boys. Buy one sample of a few different bottles. Um, can't they just drink out of any old bottle? No. One will make them choke, one will make them spit up, one will make them ...
My Boring Kitchen
Do you have a boring kitchen too? My kitchen is pretty, the appliances are nice, the finishes are new, but it's just not me. I've always struggled with it because the style of the kitchen is a contemporary that I don't particularly like. There are a million things I could do about a kitchen that doesn't feel like me, but I don't want to sink my money into it. Then I remembered my spoons. I collected spoons growing up, and even after I was done with this collecting phase, my siblings would still buy me spoons so my collection was ever-growing. With a few frames and paper from the craft store, a backsplash tile from the hardware store, and some new hardware ...
