My Boring Kitchen

Do you have a boring kitchen too? My kitchen is pretty, the appliances are nice, the finishes are new, but it’s just not me. I’ve always struggled with it because the style of the kitchen is a contemporary that I don’t particularly like. There are a million things I could do about a kitchen that doesn’t feel like me, but I don’t want to sink my money into it.

Then I remembered my spoons.

I collected spoons growing up, and even after I was done with this collecting phase, my siblings would still buy me spoons so my collection was ever-growing. With a few frames and paper from the craft store, a backsplash tile from the hardware store, and some new hardware from ebay, I added personality to my kitchen with $100.

Making the spoon frames

I cut pieces of paper and inserted them in unfinished wood frames from the craft store.

Then picked out my favorite spoons…

And hot glued them in the center of the frame.

cute idea, it looks great! i love the backsplash tile as well….i would love to have that covering my ceiling!

Great idea! Just curious, is the hot glue weak enough that you can take it off whenever and polish them?? Or do you prefer the untarnished look??

3. ohbrooke

@Laura- I have been able to pick the glue off, and these spoons are nowhere nice enough to need polishing. You could probably be a lot less lame and use some kind of twist ties or hooks of some kind… I lost energy :)

I have a friend who collects spoons (I thought she was the only one!) and her collection is out of control, so I’ll have to pass this onto her!

so cute – what a great way to make use of a collection instead of it just sitting in a box somewhere.

where did you get your box?

12. ohbrooke

@Carrie Ann – the box of drawers is a scrapbook organizer unit that I got a Michael’s craft store for 50% off. Here’s one online: http://www.createforless.com/Crop+In+Style+Store+In+Style+Organizer+Cube+4+Drawer/pid97624.aspx?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=cse
