Glass Jars
I always reuse things I’ve collected for parties – sometimes to use at another party, sometimes to use in my home. I was able to do both with these.
I used these jars at a baby shower I threw:

And put them on the shelves in my bedroom:

Remember: Don’t buy these if you don’t have to! Clean out your fridge, eat more pasta, or see if someone is giving them away on craigslist or a garage sale .

Our church (http://www.sojournchurch.com) has an art gallery in the foyer that changes every few months. Most of the work shown in the gallery is from independent artists in the community and is not necessarily church related. The most recent exhibit, though, was hosted by one of the artists in the church. One of the displays was a huge collection of jars that were all filled with the palest blue water. Above the jars hung scrolls with barely-legible names and phrases. Beside the display where the title and description of the work was found, there was simply this verse from Scripture: “You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?” Psalm 56:8. I thought it was beautiful and have longed to do it on a smaller scale in our apartment. This post is a good reminder to start obtaining glass jars! :)
I actually used a bunch of old vases and pasta sauce jars last Christmas Eve on my front steps. I placed Epsom salt in them and lit tealights. Very pretty.
@Carmie – I love that idea… I’ll have to try it! Thanks!
@Beth – put the word out to your friends and have them save jars for you too… great recycling! Love the image you described…
Great idea! I actually did this for my wedding… we had all sorts of different size jars on the tables, some with flowers and the others with battery tealight candles. Easy inexpensive way to decorate!
The jars look so pretty when they are lit up with candles! I love creative ideas like this and will definitely try this out.
I just used about 50 of mine last night. I lined them all over the backyard while I had some ladies over and just put simple tea lights in them. Every time I do that I think, “why don’t I do this every night”? It’s amazing!
