28 Weeks: What I Know Now

- I am deathly sick with a cold in this picture… if I looked at the camera, you would have thought I was dead.
- We’re officially in our third trimester. I am starting to feel like this takes f o r e v e r.
- I’m noticing the extra weight making its way to the bottom half of my body. It certainly puts my feelings about my pre-pregnant body in perspective.
- I feel great most of the time. My least favorite times of the day are getting into bed, getting out of bed, putting my shoes on, and sneezing {ouch!}
- I am T minus 2 weeks away from permanently misplacing my belly button.
- I have indigestion every day. Not a big deal, I just have to eat smaller meals and keep Tums handy.
- I’ve finally found the skin routine that seems to be working: prescription wash in the morning, witch hazel at night, turning my pillow over every other night, and changing my pillowcase every four nights.
- My husband and I used to sit in the hot tub often. Even though I can’t get in the hot tub anymore, I still love sitting on the edge, putting my feet in and chatting with my husband. It’s still one of my favorite times of the day.
- My husband and I have settled on a name. The problem is, the name he has settled on is different than the name I have settled on.
- When my husband talks, the baby kicks.
- As we’ve gotten more physically prepared, I’ve gotten more mentally ready to have a baby in the house.
- Several times now I’ve woken up in the middle of the night to severe hip pain. I guess my hips are widening {as if that’s necessary}.
- I think I’m ready for the next size up in maternity jeans. You don’t stay in one size for too long before you move into the next!
- My go-to maternity clothes are my H&M maternity jeans, H&M black pants {not available online}, Old Navy Hoodie, and my sweats!
- That little red and white onesy in the background of the picture was the outfit I was supposed to come home from the hospital in when my mom thought I was going to be a boy. My name was going to be Ryan.

I’m new to your blog and love reading about “what you’ve learned… “(so far). I’m recently pregnant and my sister turned me on to your blog. (She can be found at http://heartpiercinglife.blogspot.com/)
I’m enjoying learning about what to expect and wondering how I’m going to feel and deal with these future little joys of pregnancy.
Thanks for keeping this real and still exciting! Keep them coming…
Best,
CTR
These things totally scare me! Hips widening!!!
I am so excited for you and Jason. You’re almost there.
You made me laugh out loud that you have two different names. With the first we were pretty sure but wanted to wait, with the second we had two we both liked…but we used our planned middle name instead and had to scramble for a middle name. They do have a baby name book at the hospital, we had a nurse track one down. Another family I know had like 5 names going in and didn’t use any of them. So I guess it’s good to have a few to work with once you see the adorable face that will capture you forever.
My mom was CONVINCED I was going to be a boy (as well as Jennifer and Caitlin). My name was going to be Clark (so was theirs since it hadn’t been used)
Right around 16-36ish weeks is my favorite part. Glad you aren’t feeling too bad (I hear you on the Tums.) Old wives tale is that heartburn=your baby has hair, so we shall see.
One warning for the very end- it is so hard to get out of bed, it is kind of unbelievable. The last week (aka 6 days overdue) I was thinking how I was glad that I wasn’t that big when they baby came home cause it would be impossible to get up multiple times during the night with her…it took me long enough to get into bed, and forget about sleeping much. Luckily this time is the shortest, for me anyway. I would rather roll in and out of bed for a month than feel sick for three months any day.
I love #9. So funny. I was so excited when I read the first sentence. Then I kept reading….haha
Even though i’m not experiencing what you are, i love reading about it. You look great and crack me up every single time i read!
You look so cute pregnant, I can’t get over it! Yes the hips moving is such a lovely experience, oh the joys of being a mommy to be!
Just wondering if you’d share any of the names? I love hearing baby names when people are trying to decide. You look great and we’re so happy for you and J.
Is the crib in the picture a Jenny Lind crib??
@Meredith – Yep, a Jenny Lind crib!
#9 made me laugh out loud. You look great!
So adorable that your mom kept your onesie. And evidently, she and I have the same taste in names: I have a 2-year-old son named Ryan and a 1-year-old daughter named Brooke.
Best wishes to you. I’m convinced that those 9-months are needed to make you actually look forward to child labor. And that’s saying A LOT!
I think you should get to pick the name, because you are doing all the hard work!!
Hi Brooke,
Love your blog and congrats on your pregnancy! I can relate to the skin issues…I got acne BIG TIME when I was pregnant with my now-16-month-old. Just terrible, luckily it was the only pregnancy issue I had though! :) I’m thinking of having another in the future and was wondering what products you’ve found that work? (I know everyone’s different but definitely curious!) Anyway, LOVELY site and congratulations again! :)
Jennifer
@Jennifer – Oh, I’m hoping this is just a pregnancy thing too! I’m using a topical prescription of Rosula, which works really well. Plus Witch Hazel, Purpose brand oil free moisturizer + spf, and a little clearasil here and there is working. I have a steamer I like to use every other week or so – and somehow the combination of all of this makes my skin manageable. I’ve been getting a facial every 5 weeks or so too, to start with a clean slate. Seems to be helping.
Thanks for commenting!
Oh Brooke you look so great! I finally just got caught up on your blog and loved reading all the updates–and totally cracked up several times on what you’re learning. Just wait until the fingernail pains. That’s the only way I can describe them…I won’t elaborate here. :) Can’t believe you are in your 3rd trimester. Count down! Love you, and talk to you soon
I am also new to your blog and have been laughing out loud at your posts for every 4 weeks. I am currently almost 26 weeks along and can pretty much agree with everything your writing. Luckily though, I have never gotten sick and sleeping at night is still pretty peaceful, so I’m waiting for the “just wait” period. I look forward to hearing and SEEING your little one – good luck!
