24 Weeks: What I Know Now

24 week pregnancy picture on ohbrooke

  1. I have had great support from you and I appreciate it. I know everybody has different experiences, but it helps me to know what worked and what didn’t for YOU.
  2. When asked how I’m doing, I’ll say “I feel great. Every now and again I get uncomfortable.” People invariably reply with, “Just wait.”         …meanies.
  3. I don’t know why new moms get anxiety about going into labor. The baby is just going to come out of a door in my stomach, right mom?
  4. Baby stuff doesn’t go on sale. For Black Friday, BabysRUs had a giant box of wipes for $5. That was their doorbuster.
  5. I’m doing yoga several times a week. It helps me take a break during the evening, and gets me more acquainted with this belly that I swear is growing by the second.
  6. My skin feels like Joan Rivers after a facelift. It canNOT possibly stretch any farther.
  7. I’m becoming more aware of how important it is to do kaegals. Each sneeze is scary. {TMI?}
  8. I’m having to sit farther and farther away from my keyboard.
  9. I don’t mind it when people touch my belly. People seem to hate that.
  10. Charlie horses! While shopping I got them in my toes in both feet at the same time.
  11. When the baby kicks, it feels like there’s a kitten in my stomach. That “kitten” jumps around 10-15 times a day: while I’m eating, or when there are loud noises. Two nights ago I woke up at 3am and had a hard time going to sleep because of the circus in my stomach. Then at work the next day, that little wiggle worm just wouldn’t stop. It’s like me and this dude spend all day together already. “Shh… mommy’s working…”
  12. My husband loves my belly getting bigger. That makes me feel good because sometimes it’s hard to imagine getting any bigger than I am now. {I know… “just wait”}
  13. My belly has been useful for so many things; a plate shelf while eating on the couch, a spacebar warmer, a bosom shim…
  14. I gained 7 lbs. last month. That would have normally sent me running for the Haagen-Dazs {oh, the irony}, but I’ve laughed it off and moved on. What can you do?
  15. My “Mom Purse” has naturally evolved. I always have Tylenol, Tums, and hand sanitizer on-hand. In my first trimester I even had a plastic trash bag {just in case!}. Let’s hope “Mom Jeans” aren’t next.

During my second pregnancy I gained EIGHT lbs during one month. The nurse actually said, “Oh that can’t be right. Let’s go ahead and weigh you again.” Sure enough I really had gained eight pounds. As if seeing it on the scale wasn’t enough the first time.

Loved your little update list!

With the charlie horses- my doctor said to eat more potassium, so I had a little glass of OJ everyday. I got mine in the middle of the night…and only when I’m pregnant. And the bladder control doesn’t even compare to the second baby…o my. I had heard horror stories from friends of keeping extra underwear and pants in the car, and while it was never THAT bad…it was worse than before. So keep up the exercise, you need to! I like reading your updates, they always make me laugh and hit close to home. And good job not thinking about labor yet…I never do till the end when it’s like wait…I’m THIS big and this baby is going to come OUT? Are you sure?

The kaegals one made me laugh out loud. Even funnier because I JUST learned what kaegals are a few months ago…..Thanks Mom!

Looking beautiful as ever Brookie!

adorable!

brooke, if you really gained seven pounds, it clearly all went only to your belly and your boobs. you look great!

i love that you described your baby as feeling like a little kitten (sans incredibly sharp kitten claws, of couse). i totally know what you mean. but then, i also know what it means to later feel like that same teeny kitten turned into a giant lion cub (also sans claws) who still likes to do acrobatics.

just wait until your skin actually does stretch even more – oh, yes, it will. it will! may God spare you from coming out of this the way my dear friend jenn did – looking like a lion ran his claws down her pregnant belly. lots and lots of drinking water and a triple or quadruple dose of lotions will help as preventative steps taken.

yay for prenatal yoga!

boo to babis-r-us and that lousy black friday door buster. unbelievable!

Yay for you! You look fantastic! I agree with everyone else when they say that you’re all baby, girl! I am at 30 weeks myself with my second baby and I keep thinking “No way can I get bigger!” and then, I do.

Because of this constant growing I live, breathe and die by Palmers Tummy Butter. You can get it at almost any drugstore, it comes in a flat, circular container and feels so nice on your tight, dry skin. I slather my belly, thighs, tush and the girls with it after every shower and it leaves my skin so soft all day. I don’t think it “prevents” stretch marks really (and from what I’ve heard, nothing does – you’re either genetically stuck with getting them or you’re not) but it does make you feel prettier when you’re skin is feeling less than hot!

I’ve been meaning to try some prenatal yoga and now I’m more inspired than ever so thank you for that!

And god bless our husbands that love our growing bellies! Mine does too – I don’t get it but I appreciate it a ton!

Love hearing your updates so keep ‘em up!

I also got Charlie horses EVERY night in BOTH legs, it was horrible. as it was def the potassium, so if I ate one banana a day it would not happen. If I missed the bananas then I got a charlie horse!! You look great! :)

regarding bananas…

they are a very good idea – great for potassium and inexpensive, too.

but if you can’t eat them right now or if they don’t sound any good to you on some days, remember that avocados have 3 times the potassium that bananas do :O) and avocados are so stinkin’ yummy.

You look so good! I laughed at the kegels one too!
