Flea Market Finds
I finally made it to the Alameda Flea Market {California}. I’ve known about Alameda for years, but haven’t gone, because I have little self-control when it comes to flea markets. While I’m there, I can’t help but think what things I can sell that I already have to make room for more new treasures. Guilty! So, I went with a purpose: small items for the baby room. And though I was drawn to several sets of chairs and tables that I didn’t need, I was able to stay focused {within reason} and found some great deals.
2′ x 2′ salvaged metal tile chalkboard, $20.

Vintage wire baskets, $10.

Picture clip wall hanging, $15.

Vintage hanging basket, $15.

Hanging basket, $5.

Oversized flower bucket, $37.

And an early Christmas decoration, glass glitter letters, $5.

Well, it was a learning experience and a lot of fun. Here’s what I learned:
- Bring the big car, just in case!
- Dress in layers and wear sunscreen. It was chilly in the morning, and warm towards noon… and my nose was pink by the end of it.
- Bring small bills and large bills {and your checkbook just in case}.
- Bargain with everything, even if it’s only for $3.
- Bring a notebook {a tip from my sister}, keep track of the things you’ve purchased and need to go back to pick up, or the things you weren’t quite sure if you wanted to buy, to go back and see if it’s still there and if you still want it.
- Bring water
- Have a big Ikea or other reusable bag in your purse to carry around your items. Even better, bring a wagon or cart… 30% of the people there have these.
- Going early {6 or 7} is nice if you don’t want to be around crowds, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Plus, the earlier you go, the more it costs to get in {$15.00 – 6:00AM – 7:30AM, $10.00 – 7:30AM – 9:00AM, $5.00 – 9:00AM – 3:00PM}
- Get the breakfast sandwich… delicious!
I’ll definitely go again {it runs the first Sunday of every month}, but I think I’ll wait until January. My sister, avid flea marketer, said prices were high since we’re close to Christmas. January will likely bring on the deals.

So jealous of your finds. My local flea market is all overpriced hipster crap (like ironic tshirts). I need to go far for the good stuff.
PS I saw your comment on my blog. Oriental Trading coupons can be found online if you google for them.
