Filling a Large Wall : Part 1

Some of you {notice I say “you” and not “us”} have big expansive houses with over-abundant and towering wall space.

Let me first extend my apologies, because I just don’t know how you are able to deal with such a laboring plight. It must be awful to feel so tiny in your cavernous home, your furniture dwarfed by the enormous room size. It must be exhausting to fill linear foot after linear foot of gargantuan wall in your 3,000 square foot home.

But I digress {kidding, Tara}.

Here are some ways to make your big fat castle of a home feel more like a bungalow:

wall1
Cover plywood with scraps of fabric in all different sizes. Remember to vary the scale of the fabric. For pattern-phobic, you can do all one fabric above a bed, or throw some solids in there, too {from roomdecoratingideas.net}.

wall2

Make a banner! Okay – not for everyone. These could be family pictures, fabric, patterned paper, or you could just buy this one on etsy here {from the stamford wife}.

wall3

Hit up the thrift store or TJ Maxx and find some cool plates {from ehow.com}.

wall4

Do something cool. How cool are these {from here}?

wall5

Okay scenario: buy this wall graphic. Best case scenario: grab a projector and paint this on the wall. Oooo… I’m getting ideas {from here}.

wall6

Fill it with geometric Wallter tiles {from here}.

wall7

And everyone’s favorite: the picture wall. The big white mattes on the dark paint easily fill this large wall {from cbc.ca}.

Instead of me getting ideas on how to decorate my house all cute (which I’ll never be able to do), why don’t you just come on over and decorate it for me? You know where I live!

2. Shannon

Fun ideas! I’m working on a picture wall and a couple of plate walls at the moment… I’m so tired of looking like we just moved in :)

3. Michelle

I love the fabric idea! So cute! That may be my next project for my bedroom (lots of open walls…)

4. nicki hoxie

I love this! Good variety of different stuff to use! I love the first two…so cute!

5. Paige

I love the fabric walls and the projector. But I am afraid of change. I need you to do it for me.

6. Lana

I love these ideas, especially the fabric covered boards! I have so much fabric just lying around…
And the stacked books are cool too!

7. Martine

Those are really kewl pictures! I live in an old historic school and often create collages on the walls, but your tips inspire me to go further! ;) Best wishes from the Netherlands x
