Mo’ Betta.

I’m an internalizer. Everyday I try to do better: be a better wife, write a better blog, be a better designer. When I started reading Jessica’s blog, Make Under My Life, I was inspired by her weekly “exfoliations” where she purges one thing per week. I’ve continued her tradition and donated, recycled or tossed one thing per week as well. {The perk of this little ritual is the chance to win a monthly giveaway by sending Jess a picture of your exfoliation! Learn more here.}

The philosophy has leaked into the rest of my life, and my new mantra is: LESS. The more I have, the more there is to clean up, so I’m trying to simplify by buying less, and removing what we don’t need. Mr. and I don’t have excessive junk, but everyone’s got junk, and I’m getting rid of it one day at a time. Only, recently, I did an overhaul, and sent all of this to the donation center:

I’ve jumped on Jess’ bandwagon as well and started throwing out our unnecessary junk. I dropped off a garbage of clothing to Goodwill today – feels good, right? Now if only I could remember to take a picture of that junk to apply to her giveaway…

Aw! It is so nice to hear that you and Audrey are getting in the makeunder spirit! It is addicting (delightfully so). It’s pretty great to get the same feeling of satisfaction exfoliating as it does getting something brand spanking new!

And that whole guilt trip/shopping hangover goes away :).

This week I am actually outlining how to do an ‘official’ makeunder. Stay tuned!

@ JESS LC – Thanks for the inspiration. It makes perfect sense! And I think it’s what I’ve been missing. It fits into all aspects of life, your belongings, your time, your tolerance…

I could not agree more! I stick primarily with stuff because it is the easiest thing to change immediately that can have lasting affects on all the other aspects of life. But you are totally right, even our thoughts can be made under!

I just donated a car full of stuff to the thrift store and listed stuff on ebay – Less is the new more! J :)

I have been seriously purging, making room for a new roommate. You wouldn’t believe the things that have accumulated in my house. Millions of projects that never got done. But in the spirit of condensing, I weeded out a lot. Even things I love. I set forth to hold a garage sale and brought everything outside but once it was out, the thought came to me. Has anyone ever held a FREE garage sale? So, I didn’t bother to price anything. When people asked how much i simply said, “it’s free. enjoy it.” You’d be surprised how much joy it brought to people and me. No one was super greedy and many felt better giving me a couple of dollars. Bottom line: Giving is good.
